Green Cargo is the dominating rail freight operator in Sweden and the fifth largest in Europe. The Swedish rail cargo industry is deregulated and added to this there is also strong competition from trucking and shipping. To work closely with customers and be adaptable to changing demands is the key for Green Cargo’s success.

Today, Green Cargo is able to release new schedules monthly. For each schedule release Green Cargo uses Carmen Systems’ products to plan the next month’s work for their 450 locomotives and 900 train drivers.

“Over the past years we have changed our way of planning completely, and Carmen’s products are key contributors to this change,” says Jonatan Gjerdrum Analyst at Green Cargo. “With the new planning tools for fleet and crew we can work much closer to sales and give them timely and precise feedback on the cost of supplying a new order.”

For each month a new operating timetable is released about one month ahead. Then Carmen’s Fleet, Pairing and Rostering products are used to produce the lines of work for locomotives and crew. “We now work on reducing the lead time in the locomotive and crew planning process by another week, so that we can be even more receptive to changes in demand,” concludes Jonatan Gjerdrum.
