Carmen Optimization Workshop 14-15 September

From the 14-15 September, more than 25 of Carmen's optimization experts from Carmen offices around the world gathered in Göteborg for the annual Carmen Optimization Workshop (COW) to discuss their work and achievements in all aspects of resource optimization.

This year, the Carmen Optimization Community was joined by Prof. Cynthia Barnhart from MIT, Dr. Ralf Borndörfer from Zuse-Institute Berlin, and Dr. Robert Ashford from Dash Optimization. Many presentations and discussions highlighted the importance of being able to meld art and science to create optimization models and tailored solution approaches that are effective in solving large-scale, real-world problems.

Dr. Stefan Karisch, Vice President Operations Research, said that COW was again very valuable by bringing specialists and researcher together to share ideas and discuss how our optimization technology can bring maximum value to our clients.

Dr. Curt Hjorring, Optimization Guru at Carmen, summarised the workshop by emphasizing the broader range of problem domains that are now being worked on by colleagues all over the world.

Prof. Cynthia Barnhart from MIT talked about the art and science of service network design, emphasizing the importance of model selection and its impact on the solvability of real world problems.
