The bidline-generation problem at airlines aims at constructing crew rosters that are productive and must also satisfy quality criteria such as regularity, robustness and a certain degree of fairness. We challenge a common belief that bidline-generation does not require optimization, and describe different approaches for modeling and solving the problem. Computational results are also presented.
